Writer and translator Kate Briggs was born in England and currently lives in the Netherlands, where she founded the writing and publishing collective Short Pieces That Move! She has translated two volumes of Barthes’ lecture notes at the Collège de France, entitled The Preparation of the Novel and How to Live Together (Columbia University Press, 2010 and 2012), as well as two novels by Hélène Bessette, Lili Is Crying (2025) and Twenty Minutes of Silence (2026). After This Little Art (2017), she published the novel The Long Form (2023) with Fitzcarraldo, which was translated into German and Spanish in 2025.
