With this poetic and dreamlike first novel, Anna de Sandre provides the contemporary mythology of a world ravaged by our ordinary evils.

In the heart of a valley rises Villebasse, an interlacing of centuries-old streets where shacks and buildings pile up. For a few years now, without anyone being concerned, a strange blue moon has been lighting up the sky. Those who come here rarely leave, restricting their lives to the city walls. Villebasse is their horizon and their curse. It is at the beginning of winter that Le Chien arrives in town. He prowls from park to alley, sharing in the lives of others, sometimes protector, sometimes vigilante.

The author

Anna de Sandre lives in Occitania where she writes short stories and poetry that have been published by In8 and Des carnets du dessert de lune. She is also the author of children’s books published under the pseudonym Anne Pym by Gallimard and L’École des loisirs. She regularly leads writing workshops while working as a bookseller on and off. Villebasse is her first novel.

Strong points

A first novel with a remarkable writing that evokes Franck Bouysse or Séverine Chevalier at La Manufacture de livres.

A social novel that, through poetry, transcends the contemporary dramas that it stages.
