Behind the crime setting, this new novel by Benoît Séverac tells us about the sums of courage and challenges, renunciations and unspoken words that unite a father and his son both seeking to know what it is to be a man.

Matthieu Fabas killed because he wanted to prove he was a man. A pointless murder, just so his father would stop treating him like a nobody. Verdict, 15 years in prison. The day after his release, Matthieu’s father is murdered and the culprit seems very likely. But why would Matthieu sacrifice his life again? For Inspector Cérisol in charge of the investigation and for his men, it does not fit. It remains to plunge into the story of these two men, father and son, to understand their terrible relationship.
