In his mid-thirties, the narrator divides his time between France and New York, where he has followed his partner. A serious illness throws everything into question, reawakens the desire for a different life, and calls past choices into question. We find him in the first summer of his recovery, at a crossroads. How does one reconnect with the living when one feels like one has returned from the dead? How does one change one’s life without destroying everything?
