November 1971. Dan Cooper becomes the most mysterious of the hijackers. After hijacking a Boeing, he parachutes over the forests of Portland and disappears forever with his ransom. For journalist Mark Anderson, the case is an obsession: for 45 years, he has been leading the investigation, trying to double-cross the police, sifting through reports... And when the FBI decides to close the case, Anderson hears about a new key witness. The opportunity to dive back into his notes and go over the interrogations of those who, each in their own way, tell the Cooper mystery and reinvent the myth of the outlaw.

In this novel, Pierre Mikaïloff appropriates one of the most legendary American criminal cases. Through the lives of a few anonymous people, he paints a portrait of America, its contemporary gold diggers, its monsters and its doubts.

Strong points

A novel taking as its starting point a legendary unsolved case, abandoned by the FBI in 2016 after 45 years of investigation.

The very romantic story of a hijacker who disappeared after a plane hijacking with a ransom of 200 000 USD.

A novel that tells us about the United States through a subtle gallery of characters.
