A science fiction novel written in a new and luminous language.

Alone amid the grandiose and wild landscapes of northern Quebec, a woman clings to writing as if it were a lifeline. La Floune, as she is called, has just left her family. Fighting for survival, she pours her heart out on paper, revisiting her past among the Godpèles. For this deeply democratic society, born from the remnants of our world, modern technology has the flavor of an almost forgotten myth. The shovel plays a central role in their lives: a tool for sculpting snow, it is the symbol around which their way of life has developed. From birth, La Floune has been a joy for the Godpèles, a treasure of future and hope. Now she must flee them, the keeper of a secret she dares not even touch upon. Will she escape this endless winter, whose black shadow hangs like a curse over the frozen mountains?

Godpèle brings together La Floune’s last writings, written in a language that does not yet exist and translated into a language that does not really exist. Gabriel Marcoux-Chabot delivers a unique, meticulous, and poignant work, where form and meaning are in perfect harmony.
