First, we have a journalist, working passionlessly for a second-rate media organisation. A rotten married life, a daughter born from a one-night stand, zero prospects. He starts his mornings with a strong joint to help him forget that day will bring nothing new. Our second just got out of jail. His shenanigans and connections are enough for him to make his mark in the city. Coke is just what is needed to brighten up daily life. Together, they leave for a few days amongst friends in Malaga, just to decompress . The setting is not the best, but at least they can talk man to man. And in Malaga, a few years ago, Farid has set up quite a business, the kind whose success is rarely talked about, which journalists do not cover, and yet which speaks volumes.

In this first novel, Matthieu Luzak offers to bring us on the journey of two guys depicting a resolutely contemporay society without a future. In the manner of raw rap lyrics, he delivers the dreams and dramas of the 21st century’s disillusioned .

The author

Born in 1981, Matthieu Luzak spent his youth in the working class neighborhood of La Source in Orleans, where he played soccer, did graffiti and shoplifted. During an unfinished doctorate, he abandoned sociology for the novels of Donald Goines or Edward Bunker. After becoming a journalist, he travelled all over France before settling in Aubervilliers. Poudre blanche, sable d’or, is his first novel.

Strong points

A first novel that makes visible the downtrodden of our society, those who live from minor trafficking and navigate in illegality.

A raw, modern and authentic literary voice.

A novel between the universe of a Las Vegas Parano and the American white trash literature.
