In April 1942, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was exiled in New York after his demobilisation. Depressed, the writer-aviator could only think of returning to fight to defend occupied France. It was against this backdrop that his Canadian publisher invited him on a promotional tour. He arrived in Montreal with his wife just as Canada, at war with Germany, ordered the closure of all French embassies on its territory. As a result, the writer was stuck in Quebec.

His stay in Quebec was to shake him out of his torpor. Between fishing parties and walks in the forest, he meets a little girl who draws sheep, a lamplighter, and a bright-eyed little boy who asks a lot of questions…

Noteworthy

Now a publishing phenomenon, The Little Prince is the most widely read and best-known work of French literature in the world.

A number of hypotheses have been put forward as to the origin of The Little Prince… And what if Antoine de Saint-Exupéry drew his inspiration from Quebec?

Philippe Girard is back at La Pastèque! The author presents an exceptional book worthy of his talent.
