“Maybe it’s the simplicity of the thing itself that misleads you.”
— Edgar Allan Poe

Four tales of Poe are collected in this collection under the theme of correspondence: The Purloined Letter, MS. Found in a Bottle, Thou Art the Man! and Mellonta Tauta. A journey between reasoning and chimeras, from the princely courts of Paris to the depths of the marine abyss, including a hilarious science fiction episode and a corpse denouncing its own murderer. At each stage, a letter is the key to the plot.

The author

Precursor of the detective novel and science fiction, an outstanding fantasy novelist, Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was first recognized by French authors such as Baudelaire and Mallarmé, who were his translators. To celebrate the tenth title of the collection, this “Pli” is doubled: 128 pages of suspense and invention wrapped in a black jacket where Poe’s face appears in relief, like the famous stolen letter from the eponymous tale, invisible because it is right in front of our eyes.
