On the evening of November 13, 2015, at the Bataclan, a group of terrorists opened fire on the crowd. There will be 90 deaths; 1415 people will survive this attack. For the survivors of the Bataclan, those who have, as one of them will say, “kissed death on the mouth”, begins another life.
Six years after that evening, Olivier Roller, a photographer specializing in portraits, met twenty survivors. These members of the association Life for Paris had tattoos to mark their bodies as a reminder of their time in hell. They decided to pose, to let the photographer immortalize these tattoos and then to tell their stories, face to face, in front of a microphone, without any filter.
This book presents these photos and transcribes the words of these survivors, the story of their Bataclan but especially of their “after”. It invites us into the intimacy of the exchanges between these victims and the photographer, and gives voice to the witnesses. It gives the thickness, the nuance of the intimate and the human to a tragic page of our history.
This book is their memorial.
