A cruel and modern tale, fiercely feminist, the new novel for teenagers by Isabelle Pandazopoulos.

Ondine is a princess. But she is first and foremost a woman. So she was taught to keep quiet. To bow down. To obey.
But nothing could ever extinguish her uncontrollable desire for freedom. The day her father forces a husband upon her, she runs away.
Following the trail of her brothers, who rumor says have been transformed into birds, Ondine discovers that another life is possible, far from the destiny mapped out for her.

The author

For 25 years, Isabelle Pandazopoulos was a teacher of literature, teaching children with severe academic difficulties and mental disabilities. Then she became a trainer at INSPE for specialized teachers and documentalist teachers.
For the past few years, she has devoted herself entirely to writing.
She has published 6 Young Adult novels, selected for numerous prizes, notably the Prix Vendredi and the Prix des Incorruptibles, and all published in the Scripto collection by Gallimard Jeunesse and by Rageot.
She has also adapted texts from Greek mythology, The Odyssey, The Labours of Hercules, and has initiated a new series that tells this same mythology from the point of view of women: Athena, Penelope, Ariadne and Demeter.
She also conducts writing workshops.

Highlights

After her foray into general literature, we rediscover the bewitching writing of Isabelle Pandazopoulos, a recognized author, for a teenage audience.

With poetry, she delivers a feminist message through the setting of a dark and poetic tale.

Ondine, the main character, undergoes a beautiful evolution throughout the novel: from tyrant’s daughter, passive and obedient, she breaks free from dictates and fights to create her own path.

This novel follows in the lineage of Le Chagrin du roi mort by Jean-Claude Mourlevat, Tant que nous sommes vivants by Anne-Laure Bondoux and, more recently, D’or et d’oreillers by Flore Vesco.
