A young man whose first name will be unknown is dropped off at his parents’ estate, or at least a couple who claim to be. He is hired as a waiter in this large restaurant lost in the middle of a forest, known only to its regulars. A contemporary fable about the world of work, this is a stripped-down, highly controlled, and extremely chilling tale that the author delivers to us. How far can one go in accepting humiliating working conditions, under the pretext that one is at least lucky enough to have a job?
Loneliness, violence, humiliation, but also perseverance of the hero, the reader suffers with him and sees himself as an accomplice, witnessing his honesty and his dismay, as well as his powerlessness. A first novel with a Kafkaesque atmosphere.
The novel is increased by an unpublished short story: Pauvre Cindy !
