One winter morning, Dr. Frédérique, a psychiatrist, is found unconscious in his home. Hospitalized, he tells the story of what led him to attempt to end his life in interviews with his therapist, when he agrees to play along. At the origin of his distress, there is Emma. Obsessive as well as fragile. A woman to love and perhaps to save. As the doctor reveals himself, a portrait of the young woman and a troubling truth emerge. What if this affair was not exactly what Dr. Frédérique would have us believe? Can we trust what he says?

In this hypnotic first novel, Léo Cairn takes us into the meanders of a man’s mind. We become in turn confidant, spectator, judge and analyst, doubting his sincerity, his memories, his perceptions. But when it comes to feelings, is there any truth behind the illusion of being loved?
