Pia is the daughter of the gods. Around her, the world is perfect and beautiful.
On one side are her parents and her brother. On the other is her education in the world, with a brace to straighten her spine, a life spent in hospitals, and books. Pia discovers that she belongs to the camp of monsters rather than that of the chosen.
When the family leaves France to live in a new country, Pia encounters an unfamiliar language, codes she doesn’t understand, and a persistent feeling of never belonging. She wages a battle: to become worthy of being loved.
With a voice by turns biting, funny and heartbreaking, Drôle d’agonie (Funny Kind of Agony) tells the story of the conquest of an identity and a reconciliation with a body long experienced as an enemy.
