Les falaises tells the story of an inner journey, historical and feminine, which from the Gaspé Peninsula to Iceland brings together these women of adventure and the great outdoors.
V. has just learned that the lifeless body of her mother has been found in the surf of a beach not far from the family home. She leaves Montreal abruptly, heading for the Gaspé Peninsula, her native land, where she finds her sister and aunt, the “survivors” of her mother, a fragile, unstable, wild woman who left an indelible mark on her daughters. Sorting through the deceased’s belongings, V. discovers old notebooks containing her grandmother’s handwritten diaries, which she begins to read and soon devours. She goes back up the river-women of her lineage.
