In a France where temperatures are nearing 30 degrees in March, Sakina Abu Nada is unsettling those in power. A French-Palestinian poet, media icon and activist for “the Cause”, she is the target to be taken down. And Frédéric Durtal, of the Service de la Protection des personnalités (the VIP protection service), is the one assigned to do it. Two people who have nothing in common, brought together for better and for worse just as the country is on the verge of tipping into dictatorship.

The author

Born in 1964 in Rouen, Jérôme Leroy has been a French teacher in a ZEP (Priority Educations Zones) in Roubaix for almost 20 years. Since 1990, he has written novels, essays, books for young people and collections of poetry. He is also the co-writer of Lucas Belvaux’s film Chez nous. His work has been awarded various literary prizes.

Highlights

The new novel from Jérôme Leroy, a leading name in crime fiction, following Les Derniers jours des fauves (The Last Days of the Beasts), which sold 30,000 copies, and La Petite fasciste (The Little Fascist), which sold 10,000 copies.

Somewhere between realism and speculative fiction, this is a gleeful novel with biting, incisive prose.

A thriller about the political obsessions of our time, published at the start of the presidential election year.
