A hunting estate up in flames in the Landes.
Three dead bodies in the wreckage.
Three small-time crooks looking to earn their gangster stripes.
Two semi-big shots from the Bordeaux underworld.
A string of botched plot twists worthy of a Coen brothers film.
And a guy who shows up with a Yorkshire terrier tucked under his arm.
That’s the true story of the Belhade killings.

The author

Sébastien Gendron is a French-language writer born in 1970. Author of crime novels and books for young readers, he has also been known to write autobiographies of which he is not the subject. It seems he’s been called the Mozart of crime fiction, though I don’t quite believe that. Prone to a misanthropy he pours into his work, he nonetheless remains pleasant company.

Highlights

A writer well established in the crime fiction genre, published in Gallimard’s Série noire.

A caustic pen brought to bear on an improbable true story.

A true crime account that x-rays the justice system.
