The Espaces Culturels E.Leclerc now have 1185 bookshops, including eleven women and men who make up the jury for this year’s Landerneau Polar Prize. Since 2012, the Landerneau Polar Prize has been awarded to the author of a genre novel ( black, detective, mystery, thriller...) written in French and combining writing and subject matter likely to convince the greatest number of readers.

Chaired this year by Michel Bussi with Michel Édouard Leclerc, the jury of bookshops of the Espaces Culturels E. Leclerc selected 5 titles, which were submitted to the vote of the whole network. The latter was taken into account during the final deliberations, which took place by videoconference on 3 March 2021.

According to Michel Bussi, “with The Republic of the Weak, Gwenaël Bulteau offers us an addictive, powerful and original thriller. His novel transports us to Lyon in 1898. Through the strength of an investigation with multiple twists and turns and a gallery of characters described with striking humanity, Gwenaël Bulteau plunges us into a world of violence and chaos in the face of the rise of populism, but also honours the fraternity of the weak, at the heart of a fragile Republic that forgets them”.
